The Personal MBA exists because there are a lot of people out there who haven’t had the luxury of a $100,000 education, but still have the verve and determination to run their own endeavor. And sometimes the language around business, around start-up culture, feels pretty exclusionary and foreign, and it can feel uncomfortable to ask what feels like a basic question. Most people who could bridge that gap are too busy running their businesses to write about it.

Practical, unvarnished takes on the tools, systems, and mental models that move the needle for lean operators.
Right now that means a lot of AI tools and SaaS, because that’s where the real leverage is in 2026 if you’re running something small and trying to run it well. I’ve used most of this stuff in an actual operating business, not a test environment. I’ll tell you what works, what’s overhyped, and what I stopped using and why.
No hustle culture. No listicles that end with “believe in yourself.” No advice from someone who’s never had to make payroll.
Who this is for
You’re self-taught. You might be running something now, or building toward it, or just trying to figure out how the people who are running things actually operate. You don’t see a clear path through traditional employment and you’re not waiting for one.
You want to know what tools the people ahead of you are actually using. You want the opinion of someone who’s been in the room, not someone performing expertise for an audience.
That’s who I’m writing for.
A note on credentials
I don’t have an MBA. I have a business I built and exited from, and a hard-won education in what that actually takes. Everything on this site comes from that, not from a curriculum. I do have an undergraduate degree from a traditional university, entirely unrelated to the business I ended up running (or indeed to any business in general).
That’s kind of the point.
